Talking Science in the Kitchen is a multi-pronged effort to inspire children from Latino families to see themselves as STEM people and future STEM professionals through the medium of cooking. This endeavor builds on families’ existing co-cooking habits and cultural experiences to create moments of discovery that build important skills and STEM related interests. Our primary project, Science Talk in the Kitchen, led by Dr. Nicole Vitale, lies central to these efforts. By establishing partnerships with Latino families, community organizations, culinary experts, business owners, and investors, we seek to bring Cook With Me!/Cocina Conmigo! kits to homes around the country.

remy douDr. Nicole Vitale leads Science Talk in the Kitchen—a research and development project that supports children's STEM identities and diet quality through co-cooking family experiences. Funded by the NSF STEM Education Individual Postdoctoral Research Fellowship program, Nicole's research examines the intersection of STEM education and nutrition science through culturally affirming, at-home cooking activities for families.
